Studio Philosophy
I believe sewing is a practical kind of power.
Skill means you can alter, repair, make, or say no to what does not fit - physically or socially.
Here, craft is not a trend. It is discipline. It is care. It is agency.
This studio is for people who want to know why, not just copy how.
For people who want to build skills, not chase perfection.
For people who know learning something properly is worth the time it takes.
What I don’t do:
I don’t promise transformation without work.
I don’t offer confidence without competence.
I don’t teach shortcuts or remove structure.
This studio is intentionally queer-affirming and neurodivergent-aware.
Identity, access needs, and communication differences are treated as normal considerations, not special requests.
You don’t have to educate me.
You don’t have to apologise for how you exist.
You do have to engage with the work.
Serious craft. Soft landing. Slightly feral joy.
The Needlewitch
I’m Avi ~ a costume maker and trainee teacher. My work is about tailoring, identity, and craft education. I have a BA (Hons) Costume Construction (First Class) and am based in Pontypridd, South Wales.
My work combines a historical backbone with a modern purpose. I teach in a way that is structured and direct. I aim to be clear and supportive, and to include people without talking down to them.
At Needlewitch Studios, I set clear standards and respect differences. I believe everyone deserves clothes and skills that fit their real lives.
This studio exists now because it needed to.
After years of postponing, accommodating, and surviving, this is the work I’m choosing to stand in and invite others into.
