Costume for Performance

RCT Theatres Panto Dame Costume - Ursula

This project was completed during a second-year live theatre module in collaboration with RCT Theatres for their revival of Cinderella. The brief involved producing Dame costumes that matched existing designs while meeting the practical demands of a professional pantomime run.

I was responsible for the construction of the ‘Ursula’ showstopper Dame costume, working from provided design references. The build included a structured bodice, skirt, and a padded tentacle overskirt, requiring careful consideration of proportion, balance, and visual impact for the stage.

A key requirement was that the costume could be worn by two different actors during the run. This necessitated adaptable fitting solutions and robust construction to allow for repeated wear, movement, and quick changes while maintaining consistency with the existing ‘Ariel’ costume.

This project demonstrates my ability to work within a live theatre environment, balancing theatrical spectacle with comfort, durability, and practical performance needs, while responding accurately to an established design brief.
