Santa Suit 2025
This project involved the construction of a Santa suit for live seasonal performance, with the brief balancing visual impact with durability, comfort, and repeated wear across December.
Following issues with dry-clean-only materials on previous costumes, I selected a deep red washable velvet and designed the suit with removable fur trim to allow for maintenance between performances. Colour-coded poppers were incorporated to ensure consistent assembly and reliable placement of details during wear.
The suit was built for use by Santa and Mrs Claus as part of a fundraising initiative for a sensory room at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. Construction decisions prioritised practicality, longevity, and ease of use while maintaining a recognisable and festive silhouette.
This project demonstrates applied tailoring for live use, where materials choice, fastening systems, and durability are critical to performance success.
