Victorian Petticoat

This Victorian petticoat was produced during my first year as part of the Costume Realisation module. The project focused on understanding foundational under-structure and how volume and silhouette are built beneath outer garments.

Inspired by period costume from The Young Victoria, the piece incorporates a bum roll to support the correct nineteenth-century shape. Bronze shot taffeta was selected for its weight and behaviour, allowing the structure to hold form without excessive bulk.

This project demonstrates early technical competence in historical underpinnings, fabric choice, and controlled construction, forming a foundation for later work in structured garments and tailoring.
